Katrina Damage to Waveland, MS and surrounding areas   ·   Page 2   ·   Page 3   ·   Page 4   ·   Page 5   ·   Page 6   ·   Page 7
We're going along Beach Blvd now - my step dad driving and my hubby taking pictures.  One thing for sure -- they've gotten electricity to the area ALMOST -- which is a miracle in itself with all this devastation! You can see the new poles are going up!

You see people living in camper trailers here and there on their property.  Some have signs like "You Loot, We Shoot" -- and I don't blame them!  Since my parents had been to their place, someone had stolen my Grandma Haymon's Sewing Machine they had put to the side for me to take home and refurbish/decorate for my mom as a gift - and my step dads wheelbarrow was missing.  His generator was stolen right after the storm, but that kinda made sense -- someone needed a generator for electricity!

This is either along Beach Blvd. (waveland) or Waveland Avenue

My step dad walking on his friends property.  This man had purchased this property just a few years ago and lost it all -- and had not a bit of insurance.  So sad.

Someone else with a flag

Entire homes, with the roofs collapsed on top of them. This is on Waveland Avenue

Again, Waveland Avenue. Remember this is blocks away from the beach.

Closer into town still on Waveland Avenue.  We heard some people would have preferred their houses to be destroyed.  What is happening is that people who have a liveable home on the OUTSIDE have to re-work the inside -- and if you did not have flood insurance (most didn't in this area as it was not in the 200 year flood area) - you do it yourself.  One home near this one said "Katrina took our home, State Farm took the rest"  I'm sure this home is not salvageable.

See all the painting? There are notes on homes, if they were OK, NOT okay, etc...and see that good ole Red White and Blue

This is into Waveland now -- all of these stores are destroyed and will not reopen.  We heard that FEMA will build a complex here for people to live.

The same shopping center. Note all the debris still everywhere -- no one has had the time to clean up anywhere -- there are more important tasks at hand there.

Boat ride anyone?  This is over the railroad tracks and just "stuck" here -- on Waveland Avenue
